Family hides "missing" corps member in Lagos. NYSC vows to start sueing absconders after the wild-goose chase.

The National Youth Service Corps on Friday said it would "begin to
prosecute corps members, who abscond from their national service for
something else."

The NYSC said this in reaction to the case of a corps member, Akeem
Adekunle, deployed to Akwa Ibom State and posted to Itam Secondary
School in Itu Local Government Area, who had been purportedly
'missing' for a few months.
The 'missing' corps member has, however, been 'found' with his family
members in Lagos after allegedly absconding from his place of primary
assignment.
The PUNCH had exclusively published stories on the 'missing' corps
member on national assignment in Akwa Ibom State.

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in NYSC,
Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, alleged that Adekunle abandoned his place of
primary assignment three months ago and since then had been with his
family members without reporting to the authorities.
According to her, the team set up by the Director-General of NYSC,
Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, visited the family of the missing corps
member to unravel the circumstances leading to his disappearance only
to discover that he was with his family members.
The leader of the team, Mr. Micheal Ahile and Director (Corps Welfare
and Inspectorate) confirmed that Akeem Adekunle "abandoned his place
of primary assignment some three months ago in Akwa Ibom State and
since then has been with his family members without reporting to the
team."

The NYSC said it "discovered that the family members have been
shielding the corps member while giving the impression that he was
missing." His sister, Kudirat, had said the family traced him to his
PPA without finding him
(http://www.nigeriadailynews.com/news/206726-national-youths-service-corps-member-missing-on-way-to-akwa-ibom.html).

Ahile, who was accompanied by NYSC's Head of Legal Unit, Ahmed Tijani,
and Assistant Director (Press and Public Relations Unit), Eddy Megwa,
warned that "the NYSC will not tolerate a situation where family
members will cover up for corps members who abandon national service."

The team also visited the family of Egwu Donald, who was confirmed by
the police to have drowned in a river in Delta State and the family of
Ekong Samuel, who the police also confirmed was kidnapped and murdered
under mysterious circumstances.
The NYSC team, on behalf of its DG, expressed sympathy with the
families of both corps members and assured them that the organisation
fully identified with them in the painful situation they were passing
through.

Woman sleeps with the wrong man in a bid to catch her "cheating" husband.

A couple was invited to a swanky masked Halloween Party. She got a
terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He,
being a devoted husband, protested, but she argued and said she was
going to take some aspirin and go to bed, and there was no need for
his good time to be spoiled by not going. So he took his costume and
away he went.

The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without
pain; and, as it was still early, decided to go to the party after
all. In as much as her husband didn't know what costume she'd be
wearing, she thought she'd have some fun by watching her husband to
see how he acted when she wasn't around.

She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on
the dance floor, dancing with every chick he could, getting a little
kiss here and a warm squeeze there. His wife went up to him and being
rather seductive herself, he left his current partner high and dry and
devoted his time to this new babe who had just arrived.

She let him do whatever he wished, naturally, since he was her
husband. Finally he whispered a little proposition in her ear and she
agreed, so off they went to one of the cars and they did it all!
Zowie! Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away and went
home, put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of
explanation he would have for his behavior.

She was sitting up reading when he came in. She asked how the evening
had been. He said "Oh, the same old thing. You know, I never have a
good time when you're not there." Then she asked, "Did you dance
much?"
He replied, "You know. I didn't dance even one dance. When I got
there, I met Pete, Bill Brown and some other guys, so we went into the
den and played poker all evening. But I'll tell you...from what I heard,
the guy I loaned my costume to, sure had a real good time!"

======================

The wife obviously slept with the wrong man in her bid to catch her
husband. Don't be overly suspicious of your husband.

"Present your primary school certificates before getting salaries ", Osun government tells workers.

Hope of civil servants in Osun State to receive backlog of their
salary arrears appears dimmed as the state government, on Tuesday,
demanded the presentation of their primary school certificates for
screening before the payment of their salaries.

Tribune Online learnt that screening forms were given out to some of
the civil servants, on Tuesday, with specific instruction to attach
photocopies of their primary school certificates to the forms.
The development followed the decision of the state government to
organise another screening exercise to determine the actual number of
the state workforce, which is now to be handled by a consultant.
One of the top civil servants, who pleaded anonymity, informed Tribune
Online that a bulletin on the presentation of primary school
certificates by workers would be out on Wednesday to inform civil
servants about the development.
Efforts to get the reaction of the director, Bureau of Communication
and Strategy to the governor, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, on the issue proved
abortive as calls put through to his phone were not answered and a
text message sent to him was not replied.

Buhari Moves To Close "Unessential" Nigerian Foreign Missions.

President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday in Abuja that his administration would undertake a review of Nigerian foreign missions to determine those that are really essential.

Speaking after being briefed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulus Lolo, President Buhari said a presidential committee would soon be established to carry out the review.
The president said the review would determine the number of essential missions Nigeria needs to maintain abroad so that appropriate standards and quality can be maintained.

Nigeria currently has 119 foreign missions abroad, the permanent secretary said.
The country will spend N34billion to run the missions in 2015.
The president said there was no point in Nigeria operating missions all over the world "with dilapidated facilities and demoralized staff", when the need for some of the missions was questionable.

"Let's keep only what we can manage. We can't afford much for now. There's no point in pretending," President Buhari told Mr. Lolo and other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The president also called for the record of former government officials and other persons still using diplomatic and official passports illegally, saying his administration will take necessary action against them.
"Something has to be done so that we can get back our respectability as a country. Some people carry official passports and get involved in all sorts of negative acts. We need to do something about it," the president said.
Mr. Lolo told President Buhari that the challenges facing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include the absence of a Foreign Service Commission, poor funding of foreign missions, policy inconsistencies and training deficiencies, among others.

IGP orders nationwide arrest of persons inciting violence. 22 Biafran activists already arrested.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase, has ordered an immediate clampdown on persons or groups of persons inciting violence and social disorder across the country.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, in Abuja on Thursday.
The statement explained that the directive became imperative because of recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in some parts of the country.

It said that the order empowered the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation.

The statement said that the following arrests had been made ; 4 in Anambra , 6 in Imo,11 in Delta, and 1 in Abia.
It further warned that all persons so arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would be charged to court accordingly.

Is 11 the new Age of Consent in Nigeria?

The controversy surrounding the newly-passed Sexual Offences Bill
rages on,with Senator Anyanwu denying the claims of Professor
Soyinka, etc that the law punishes defilement of children aged 11 and
below only, thus making 11 the new Age of Consent in Nigeria and
allowing the likes of Senator Yerima to continuing marrying underaged
wives. Read Anyanwu's arguments below:

............................

Anyanwu explained further that clause 6 of the bill provides that; "A
person who commits an offence that causes penetration with a child is
guilty of an offence called defilement."

She also said provisions of the bill included that; "A person who
commits and offence of defilement with a child aged 11 years or less
upon conviction shall be sentenced to imprisonment for life."

"A person who commits an offence of defilement with a child between 12
and 15 years old shall upon conviction be sentence to imprisonment for
life."
"A person who commits an offence of defilement with a child between
age 16 and 18 years old shall upon conviction be sentenced to
imprisonment for life."
She explained that the succeeding provisions were deleted at the
committee level in the senate, because there is no disparity in the
punishment for the offence, irrespective of age difference.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Soyinka, Falana, etc are right. Anyanwu and her colleagues should
accept correction and amend the law. Why were the age groups separated
and valuable time and space wasted since the punishment is the same
for defiling girls aged 0-11, 12-15 and 16-18?She is only exonerating
herself of complicity in the deletion of the clauses punishing the
defilement of girls aged 11-18. If she is indeed innocent, let her
prevail on her guilty colleagues to amend the law.
