The fruit of disobedience

A man had two wives. One of his sons grew stubborn. His stubborn
behaviour got him expelled from school and from apprenticeship. His
father took him to the farm one day to learn palm wine tapping.
Unfortunately, the father fell off a tree and died. He immediately
removed his father's eyes, wrapped them in leaves and presented them
to his mother and his stepmother as the rats he promised them.

They examined the "rats" with suspicion but were eventually convinced
to eat them. He declined their invitation to eat with them. Halfway
through the the meal, he confessed, singing:

Má ba tèlè lára mọ......................teele
Má ba bàbá r'óko......................teele
Bàbá já lulẹ̀, o kú.......................teele
Ìyáálé jojú ọkọ rẹ̀.......................teele
Ìyàwó jojú ọkọ rẹ̀.......................teele

They chased him with sticks until a cream-seller came to his rescue.
She took him home and told him never to mix cream with her food. He
agreed ,for a while. One day, he flouted the rule and sang (including
his previous mischief):

Má ba tèlè lára mọ......................teele
Má ba bàbá r'óko......................teele
Bàbá já lulẹ̀, o kú.......................teele
Ìyáálé jojú ọkọ rẹ̀.......................teele
Ìyàwó jojú ọkọ rẹ̀.......................teele

She chased him into the hands of an arbitrating old woman,who took him
home and forbade him to mix her fallen hair with her food. He
eventually disobeyed and sang:

She chased him into the hands of a Muslim priest, who took him home
and forbade him to give him pig meat to eat. He eventually disobeyed
and sang:

The Muslim priest chased him out and Death met them and took him in.
Death warned him never to cook for him the uppermost slice of a yam.
He disobeyed one day and sang:

Death decided to punish him secretly. Death gave him a white blanket
(and his roommates black blankets), for easy identification at night.
He suspected and exchanged blankets with a roommate who had already
slept, and Death killed the innocent boy. Another innocent boy was
killed when Death gave him a black blanket (and his roommates white
blankets). But Death caught up with him one afternoon and killed him.
